Voice Source Register Differences in Female Musical Theatre Singers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Musical theatre singing requires the use of two vocal registers in the female voice. The voice source and subglottal pressure Ps characteristics of these registers are analysed by inverse filtering. The relationship between Ps and closed quotient Qclosed, peak-to-peak pulse amplitude Up-t-p, maximum flow declination rate MFDR and the normalised amplitude quotient NAQ were examined. Ps was typically slightly higher in chest than in head register . For typical tokens MFDR and Qclosed were significantly greater while NAQ and Up-t-p were significantly lower in chest than in head.

Why so Different? Aspects of Voice Characteristics in Operatic and Musical Theatre Singing
This thesis addresses aspects of voice characteristics in operatic and musical theatre singing. The common aim of the studies was to identify respiratory, phonatory and resonatory characteristics accounting for salient voice timbre differences between singing styles. The velopharyngeal opening (VPO) was analyzed in professional operatic singers, using nasofiberscopy. Differing shapes of VPOs su...
متن کاملVoice source characteristics in different registers in classically trained female musical theatre singers
Musical theatre singing typically requires females to use two vocal registers. Physiological differences between these registers, however, have not been explicated. Our investigation considered voice source and subglottal pressure Ps characteristics of these registers, here referred to as chest and head register. These were studied by inverse filtering the oral airflow recorded for a sequence o...
متن کاملSubglottal pressure and normalized amplitude quotient variation in classically trained baritone singers.
The subglottal pressure (Ps) and voice source characteristics of five professional baritone singers have been analyzed and the normalized amplitude quotient (NAQ), defined as the ratio between peak-to-peak pulse amplitude and the negative peak of the differentiated flow glottogram and normalized with respect to the period time, was used as an estimate of glottal adduction. The relationship betw...
متن کاملTrends in musical theatre voice: an analysis of audition requirements for singers.
OBJECTIVES The American musical theatre industry is a multibillion dollar business in which the requirements for singers are varied and complex. This study identifies the musical genres and voice requirements that are currently most requested at professional auditions to help voice teachers, pedagogues, and physicians who work with musical theatre singers understand the demands of their clients...
متن کاملVoice source and acoustic measures of girls singing “classical” and “contemporary commercial” styles
The understanding of the singing voice of children and adolescents is still in its infancy, and there is a lack of a general developmental model of the young voice, in particular with relation to young singers. Available research has largely also been on “classically” trained voices, and contemporary commercial music (CCM) including pop/rock and musical theatre has largely been ignored. This st...
